Questions to Consider

In order to gain a more extensive view of the collection and formulate your own argument regarding social activites in State's Mates, explore the following inquiries.  For each question, you must consult The Good Wife Diploma primary source collection.  This will allow you to draw upon a wide variety of sources and gain the experience of navigating a digital archive.

1.  Begin by searching the collection for the State's Mates annual reports and reading over them. How did the year-to-year lineup of social activities change over time?  To what extent did guest speakers reflect the concerns of a typical student wife?  How did the programs of State's Mates respond to social change during the 1960's?

2.  Begin by searching the collection for newspaper articles on the Mrs. NC State beauty pageant.  How did newspapers cover the event?  How did they characterize the winners for each year?  How did media coverage of the pageant change over time?
