Welcome to The State of History, a digital history site on North Carolina State University based on the materials in the Special Collections Research Center and produced by the graduate programs in the History Department. Read the About page for more information on the project's creators. You may browse the site in several ways.

Documents present digitized primary sources on NCSU history, like letters, articles, and photographs. If you are interested in navigating your own way through the site's primary sources on different topics in NCSU history, choose Browse Documents.

Collections organize primary sources into specific topics including student organizations, racial integration, athletics, local foodways, and commemorations. If you would like more order to your perusal of the primary sources, choose Browse Collections.

Exhibits draw upon arguments and evidence from secondary sources to interpret primary sources from the thematic collections. If you would like to read one of the historical essays on a set of primary sources on a specific topic, choose Browse Exhibits.

Projects gather primary sources and exhibits on one topic and provide other resources, like timelines, teaching and learning activities, and visitor contributions. If you would like to view all materials related to one of the specific topics, choose Browse Projects.
