Student Leaders Call Protest Strike...2 Years Later
Title
Student Leaders Call Protest Strike...2 Years Later
Description
Just under two years (1972) after the Peace Retreat the war in Vietnam continued. Though the American involvement on the ground was significantly more limited by 1972 the U.S. government was still launching massive bombing campaigns and supporting the South Vietnamese government. Students at NC State demanded a strike--a boycott of classes towards the end of the semester. Were they trying to recreate the power of the Peace Retreat when the energy was winding down? Were they hoping to inspire largely apathetic students? Either way, they failed and were unable to get students involved in the same way as in 1970 without the spark of the Kent State shootings.
