Instances of inequality and racism were not confined to the Technician’s coverage of African American students. Concrete examples of racism occurred on NC State’s campus throughout the 1990s that angered African American students and fueled continued criticism of the majority white status quo. The Nubian Message frequently covered and commented upon racism at NC State and in the larger community. Although it tempered its initial aggressive tone over time, the paper never ceased advocating for action, change, and true recognition of African American rights, on campus and off.
