"Don't Shoot"

Title

"Don't Shoot"

Description

This photograph is of dozens of Howard University students protesting the shooting death of Michael Brown, a young black male in Ferguson, Missouri, who was killed by a white police officer in 2014. The students' pose--standing with their hands in the air--is an acknowledgment of Brown's supposed pose when the police officer shot and killed him. The incident sparked widespread protests against racial profiling and police brutality. As Megan Sims, a junior at Howard told the Huffington Post,
"I hope people look at the picture and see that the issue is bigger than Mike Brown...bigger than so many other young blacks killed by the police. This issue is about the fact that this country is not post-racial, this country is not just, this country is not free.”
