Although from humble origins, Oprah rose to become a billionaire and one of the most well-known and influential African-American women in the country. Writers at The Nubian Message, however, often criticize mainstream white media for pointing to wealthy black individuals like Oprah and concluding that America must be a 'post-racial' society.
