Questions to consider

In order to gain a more extensive view of the collection and formulate your own argument regarding women's roles in State's Mates, explore the following inquiries.  For each question, you must consult The Good Wife Diploma primary source collection.  This will allow you to draw upon a wide variety of sources and gain the experience of navigating a digital archive.

1.  Begin by searching the collection for the State's Mates annual reports and read over them. How were women's roles reflected within the reports? Do they change over time or do they stay the same from year to year?

2.  Begin by searching the collection for the State's Mates Mrs. NC State pageant documents and photographs and read/look over them. In what ways did domestic roles of women appear either in the planning or the actual event? Where did female employment factors appear in the planning or the actual event? After viewing this exhibit, are there ways the two are connected in regards to the Mrs. NC State pageant?
