Building an Institutional Identity

Many students, alumni, and faculty were less concerned that the school’s sense of identity be inseparable from a sense of Southerness. While many of these people would have identified themselves as Southerners, they did not believe that the collective identity of their school could only include Southerners or that only Southerners were capable of representing the school with honor and pride.
