Annual Report School of Agriculture and Life Sciences, 1983-84
Title
Annual Report School of Agriculture and Life Sciences, 1983-84
Description
In 1983, the agricultural market was declining and impacting student enrollment and the programmatic requests from clientele. Nationwide there was a decline of students registering for agricultural and related programs. However, progress was made in the increasing number of African Americans enrolling. Interestingly, despite Affirmative Action stating minorities of multiple ethnicities should be employed and enrolled, NC State appeared to be only enrolling African Americans. The report lists programs and activities where black leaders were increasing in 4-H and Extension, more black senior high school students were contacted for enrollment, the Research Apprenticeship was continuing, and the faculty worked to counsel and meet with new black students on a regular basis.
