"The Role of Higher Education in Social Change"

Title

"The Role of Higher Education in Social Change"

Description

This source is an address by NC State Chancellor John Caldwell at a meeting of American Council Fellows during their closing seminar in April 1970. In the address, Caldwell emphatically stated that higher education was very involved in social change, if solely for the fact that education's cardinal rule is to produce change. He stressed that purists were incorrect in assuming that universities could not fulfill their purpose of transmitting knowledge if they attempted to advocate for social change as well.
