A Black Teacher in a White School

Title

A Black Teacher in a White School

Description

This article was written by Dr. Don C. Locke, associate professor of counselor education at NC State, describing the realities of a black professor working on a white campus. Black faculty that worked at predominantly white campuses were often expected to serve on several committees addressing racial issues, which sometimes interfered with their teaching duties. The article originally appeared in The Chronicle of Higher Education in 1978. Dr. Locke was eventually named Head of the Department of Counselor Education at NC State and is now a Distinguished Professor Emeritus.
