Description

John Tyler Caldwell gave this speech in 1964 during which he spoke to the role of the western university in society in connection with international issues. Caldwell was the chancellor of NC State from 1959-1975. Under his administration, State College was renamed North Carolina State University at Raleigh, and the school became integrated.. The campus, student, and faculty population saw rapid expansion. NC State offered degrees in the humanities and social sciences for the first time.
