Annual Report, School of Agriculture 1964-65

Title

Annual Report, School of Agriculture 1964-65

Description

The excerpt from this annual report focuses on the expected salaries for graduates of the Agriculture Institute program in the mid-1960s. The School of Agriculture and Life Sciences discovered its students are increasingly specializing their field of study. NCSU SALS was one of the top programs in the South in 1964-1965 because it had the highest rate of bacculaureate graduates entering graduate or professional schools, and as well as the highest percentage returning to the farm through the Institute program of any School or College of Agriculture in the South. Clearly the program is empowering students to pursue graduate school and achieve farm careers post graduation.

"Employment opportunities have been excellent for those students accepting employment. Beginning salaries are averaging $6,000. The number of job opportunities as well as starting salaries is higher than last year.

Some interesting trends have been observed in the Agricultural Institute. Although the percentage of students enrolled in farm-oriented curricula is still approximately 60 per cent, the degree of specialization among those students is increasing. Approximately 65 per cent of these students completing the program this year are returning to the farm. Salaries vary widely among this group with starting salaries most frequently in the $3,900 to $4,200 range.

The School of Agriculture and Life Sciences, therefore, is recognized as having the highest percentage of baccalaureate graduates enter graduate or professional schools as well as the highest percentage returning to the farm through the Institute program of any School or College of Agriculture in the South."
