Consent Decree, July 17, 1981

Title

Consent Decree, July 17, 1981

Description

F.T Dupree, a U.S. District Court Judge, oversaw the litigation process between the UNC system and the Department of Education (the department that replaced HEW). Judge Dupree ruled on July 17, 1981 that the courts and not the Department of Education would monitor UNC system’s compliance to the desegregation plan. The ruling stated that the duplication of programs was the main disagreement and that the UNC system had justification in not complying with HEW’s demands. (8 pages)
