Memorandum by Harris Purks, October 7, 1954

Title

Memorandum by Harris Purks, October 7, 1954

Description

In this memo, Vice President-Provost of the Consolidated University of North Carolina Harris Purks explored three approaches the UNC system could take towards desegregation. He noted that remaining desegregated would not be supported by the federal court system and that full and immediate integration would be unpopular with the citizens of North Carolina. As such he recommended gradual integration as the best option.
