Chancellor Carey Bostian to William Friday, February 29, 1956
Title
Chancellor Carey Bostian to William Friday, February 29, 1956
Description
In this letter, Chancellor Bostian asked Acting President of the UNC Consolidated University System, William Friday, for his advice. Bostian admitted that he was confused by Attorney General Rodman's instructions to take no further action regarding the applications of African American students. As a lower court had already ordered the admittance of three students to UNC he believed that State College (now NC State) was also required to begin admitting students regardless of the state of North Carolina's appeal. Since several students had already been contacted by the University regarding their admittance, he was unsure about how to proceed.
