Title

"Freedom of Speech...at What Cost? Join NCSU in Wearing Black to Blackout Racism"

Description

This image appeared in a news story about racist and homophobic graffiti that appeared in North Carolina State University's Free Expression Tunnel in 2010. The graffiti disparaged President Barack Obama after the 2010 mid-term elections in addition to other slurs. Students protested against the graffiti by blocking the entrance to the tunnel. The University later painted over the offensive language. A similar incident had occurred on campus two years prior when Barack Obama was elected. Both incidents received widespread media coverage and sparked debates about racism and free speech.
